I have people ask me all the time, how do you stay in such great shape and never fall off track? Well here's the truth, I do 'fall off' from time to time, but my version of 'falling off' most likely doesn't look like a typical persons. When I 'fall off track' I'm still incorporating 50%-75% of my healthy habits into my routine. In other words when I slash tires, I'm only slashing 1 tire not all 4 tires. I keep myself afloat just enough that it's an easy fix and to get back on my feet in full gear. For me, fitness and health is NOT an all or nothing kind of thing, it's a lifestyle. It's a priority in my life that I'm always thinking about and striving to be my best at because it's important to me. If you're someone who is fully on with your health and then fully off 3 weeks later, then I highly suggest you let go of being the all or nothing type. I've come up with 5 healthy habits that can improve your life. These are things that I'm conscious about so that I never lose focus from my overall health. 1. Never skip a meal. The worst thing you can do after indulging in something unhealthy is to skip your next meal. Keep your metabolism on track by fueling yourself with something nutrient dense for your next meal. For example, maybe you ate 2 donuts for breakfast and think that you'll just skip lunch to equal things out. Instead, eat your lunch 4-5 hours later, but make the choice to eat a salad that is filled with greens, protein and healthy fat (and EASY on the dressing!). 2. Always drink water. Water is always my drink of choice. Literally ALL DAY long. Even if I'm having an off day, you better believe I'm still drinking my water. You need it the most especially when you're having an off day so that you can help your body speed up the process of clearing the bad stuff out. It'll likely diminish some bad cravings too. 3. Move! If you're having a bad eating day, the worst thing you can do is to be sedentary. You might be feeling lazy and tired because of the bad food choices you're making, but force yourself to get up and take AT LEAST a 10 minute walk/jog. Chances are you'll feel better and will want to continue on past 10 minutes. 4. Still try to eat as many veggies and protein as you can throughout the day. Let's say you eat those donuts for breakfast, at least pair it with something nutritional too like a veggie and egg white omelette. Veggies and protein are going to make you feel satisfied and help alleviate any bad cravings that might come about later. 5. Watch the sugar intake. Don't get me wrong, I love sugar, it's actually one of my down falls. But there are certain foods that I REFUSE to get my sugar intake from. Such as my coffee, tea, fruit juices and pop. It's a golden rule I have for myself. If I can't drink something without sweetener then it's better to just not be drinking it at all. If I'm going to eat sugar, it better be darn good and worth it such as a nice big scoop of gelato. I'm not saying you should be getting your daily dose of sugar from gelato. I'm saying that most days you should stay away from sugar as much as you can. If you're going to eat sugar aim to get it from fruits only on most days. Then every once in a while get it from that one thing that you really really love. Those are my 5 healthy habits that I'm consistently doing. Sound like a lot just starting off? Start with one that sounds easy to you and gradually add more to your routine. Strive to be the person who is NOT the all or nothing type so that you can live an all around healthier life. An all around healthier life means less health issues, less doctor visits and less expenses which can lead to an all around better life.
